Semester System
The Semester system

An important feature of the semester system is the process of continuous evaluation of a student and the flexibility to allow the student to make the progress at a pace suited to his/her individual ability, in consonance with the regulation of credit requirements.

Each course has a certain number of credits assigned to it depending on its lectures, and practical work hours in a week. One lecture hour per week for 15 weeks per semester is assigned one credit. A three credit hour course has 45 class hours per semester. However, in case of practical, one credit will be equivalent to 45 hours of practical work per semester

Academic Schedule
The academic session of the University consists of two semesters. The fall semester starts in September and the spring semester starts in March.

Withdrawl

Students withdrawing from the college will be assigned a grade ‘W’. It is student’s responsibility to clear all records and obligations to receive the official separation. The official clearance form and procedure may be obtained from the office of college administration.

Students who decide not to return college after a semester break or intending to leave the studies at the College should notify the College’s office in writing to avoid tuition and fee liability problems and to free the seats for other students. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of any refunds or return of academic certificates the student may be eligible to receive.

Normal and Maximum Duration of Study

The normal and the maximum duration for the completion of the requirements for the undergraduate programs are as follows:

Normal duration             4 years (8 semesters)
Maximum duration          5 years (10 semesters)

Dismissal From The Program
A student failing to maintain a CGPA of 1.5 at the end of the first academic year and CGPA 1.8 at the end of the second academic year will be dismissed from the program. Students not clearing first semester papers by fourth semester, second semester papers by fifth semester, third semester papers by sixth semester will be either dismissed from the program or asked to repeat the respective semester.

Transfer of credit
Pokhara University students are permitted for a transfer of credits earned in an equivalent institution with grades not lower than “B” up to a maximum of 15 credit hours. However, credits earned more than five years ago many not be accepted for the transfer of credit. But, transfer of credit out of Pokhara University depends upon the policies of institutions accepting such credit transfers. Many of our students have received transfer of all passing grades.

Class Attendence

The University requires regular class attendance in all courses. Instructors shall inform to the class at the first meeting about the attendance requirement for the course.

Students are responsible for all the work missed in the class or outside it. Instructors shall establish procedures to allow students who have been absent for valid reasons to make up missed class work. If students anticipate having to miss class, it is their responsibility to inform the instructor ahead of time.

Discipline
Students are required to adhere to the disciplinary norms of the College. It is to be realized that University education at the College is for serious individuals, interested in furthering their career prospects. As such, the University has the discretion, on recommendation from the College, to debar students permanently if they violate disciplinary norms of the College/University. All day-to-day disciplinary matters are, however, the responsibility of the College.
